Join us in the striking New Mexico Black Range! Volunteers will support CDTC staff and work alongside Rocky Mountain Youth Corps, focusing on post-fire trail work. This will be a large and rewarding project focusing on tread maintenance and log out.
Please contact Field Ops Manager, Haley at hgamertsfelder@cdtcoalition.org before applying due to the unique demands of this backcountry project. Volunteers will need to be self-sufficient, have backcountry experience, and ideally some previous trail maintenance experience.
What: Trail work (improving drainage and tread, logout) on the north side of the Black Range. Expect longer days with 6-8 miles of hiking a day.
Where: The Backcountry basecamp will be near the CDT junction on trail will be at Fishermans Mesa off the Diamond Peak trail on the Gila National Forest. Amenities are available in Silver City if coming from the south/west, or Socorro if coming from the north/east.
When: Arrive the morning of Thursday, September 25th, working through the afternoon of Sunday, September 28th.
Food and other Logistics: Backcountry camping, CDTC will provide backcountry meals, but please plan to bring your own stove and lunches/snacks. Water, PPE, and leadership for the entirety of the project will be provided by CDTC.
