Anyone who's ever stood in awe of big mountains knows the feeling of being transfixed by a place...of being absorbed by it. At different points in my twenties, thirties, and forties, I've felt this in the landscape that surrounds the CDT. Every time I visit the CDT, I remember that I've cared about the Continental Divide landscape long before I ever heard of the trail. (Here's a post I wrote in 2023 about my connection to the land that surrounds the trail.) 

But my "why" for having served on the CDTC board since 2021 is that the coalition takes a true landscape approach to the work. It's not about the path (though it is!). CDTC has called the trail one of the largest conservation efforts in the history of the United States. That's pretty radical! It's also inspiring, impactful, bipartisan, and makes a difference in the lives of people who are connected to the trail and the larger landscape. It makes a difference in MY life, because I get to work with amazing people who are doing leading work in the world of trails.
